What I have been reading lately

Well, as I said in the post before I needed a bookmark for all the books that I have been reading lately and so here is a brief list of what I have been reading:

~"How to Raise Your Spirited Child"

~"1-2-3 Magic"

~"Raising a Sensory Smart Child"

My son who will be 4 at the end of May has been having some health/behavioral issues going on with him for a little more than a year now. There are certain foods that he can't have, we have only found 3 of the one's he can't have (chocolate, milk, food coloring)...when he does have them he sits on the floor, he totally tunes out the world around him (this means no consoling him at all) and he cries loudly. This usually happens when we are out somewhere, so all we know works for him at this point is to take him home (a long car ride home with him crying), put pj's on, tuck him into bed with his blankie and rub his back. He usually falls asleep, but when he wakes up an hour or more later he is fine except he has a headache and his tummy hurts or legs hurt. He just recently gave up his beloved pacifiers, it has been 4 weeks how without them...by them I mean he had 7 of them and he liked to rotate sucking on them and carry them all around with him everywhere. He also has sore red excema like splotches on the backs of his knees, on his arms, rough skin on his tummy ( I use Ucerin and also Aveno cream) and dark circles around his eyes...

The other thing we have noticed with him is that he is SUPER sensitive to everything around him, more so than you or I would be. If there is a little drop of water on the floor that he doesn't know about, and he steps on it...he acts like there is a tac on the floor, he will yelp jump a foot off the floor and run screaming down the hallway. Or he can smell things I can't smell for a minute or two after he does, certain lights bother him, certain clothes bother him (can't have tags, and can't have snaps or buttons). There are a few stores that I have to avoid with him, because as soon as I open the door to the store it is as if a switch goes off in him and he just has a complete meltdown. He is very good at puzzles, loves water play (bathtime is a fav. with him), loves to help bake things with me, loves sand play, playdough...he will spend hours there doing any of these things. These are also things I notice help calm him down too :)! Anything else really he doesn't seem to be able to sit still and focus on an activity long enough. He also doesn't have the vocab that probably a few children his age has, thinking the pacifier might have something to do with it.
We have tried lots of different forms of dicipline with him, they don't work with him...this is the main reason I was reading these books in hopes of finding something that helps. The "1-2-3 Magic" book seems to work with him, more than anything else we've tried!! So we went to our family doctor, but she didn't know anything about what I was describing to her..she sent us off to a doctor at our local children's hospital but he just said there was nothing wrong with him and to go home and enjoy him. I was quite upset about that appointment, because I am a trained E.C.E. person and have worked with lots of children...what my son is going through isn't normal!
I went to get my dd's 1 year needles last week, had to bring my son with us...he had an episode there in the office and the doctor asked me if there was something going on with him. I explained everything to him, he wanted me to come back to see him in a week...so I did, and we are now going to see the best allergist in our area at our local children's hospital and we are going to see another pediatrician who deals with behavioral issues. So we are waiting to hear when our appointments are, and hope we are on the right track to find out what is going on with our son...and get him the help he needs. Sorry for the novel, but it takes a lot to explain what is going on with him...lol!

So I threw the challenges out, and am just offering up blog candy. Leave a comment and I will draw a number on the 26th using the generator, will let you know who won.
Hey Julie, I will be getting you a little something for your idea for one of my challenges...thanks :)!

My shower gifts

As promised, here are the gifts that I made to give my dear sister in law who is expecting her first at the end of May. We had a fun time last night at the shower, we had a good turn out...25 women. Here is the paint can that I altered, and inside the paint can I put in some diaper shirts (or onesies) that I stamped some images on. For the ink for the onesies, I used Archival ink (Jet black) and it didn't bleed or run. It faded a little bit, but nothing I could complain about and would use it again :)! As soon as I stamped the onesie shirts, I threw them into the dryer for 1/2 hour to sort of set the ink. Then, I washed the shirts so the baby could wear them right away. I did 6 onesie shirts, 2 of each image and there were 2 different sized shirts too :)! These days newborn clothes don't fit all newborns, lol!

I had these done about a week or two ago, but then yesterday I thought she could use some thank you notes to go with her gift (not something a new mother get's). So I made 26 thank you cards, I stamped the same images that were on the diaper (onesie) shirts onto the cards and then added the "thank you" sentiment. I colored each of the images on the cards too, originally I was going to just color in one thing on the card but then I got a little carried away and did more than just one thing. I put the cards into one of my altered boxes that I had left over from the card sets I made for Christmas gifts.

Cute monkey stamp eh? It is from the Autumn Leaves stamp set called "Mindy's Zoo", it is a great set to have especially if you make a lot of children's cards.
I also love this Giraffe stamp too, he is from Inkadinkado and I have used him for many baby cards :)!

The bear stamp is by Penny Black, and I have always loved any of Penny Black stamps...I highly recommend you checking her stamps out if you haven't heard of her before.

This picture you see on the left here, is the Sea Green

Foam print by Ivan Reyes and this is supposed to be the inspiration and the starting point for your card. Pretty neat eh?? I thought so at least :), and as soon as I saw that print I thought I would probably use the "Pick-A-Petal" set. But then another card came into my mind, and I put the "Pick-A-Petal" set down. I also decided to go check out the other people's cards too that they created using this piece for inspiration, what amazing cards they all made. Great work guys :)!

Don't look Erin, please :)!

Here is one of the 3 cakes I am making for my sister in laws Baby shower, that we are having tomorrow night at my mother in laws place :). Cute eh?? No, I didnt' use a cake pan from Bulk Barn or Michael's...I actually did cut this cake out by hand, it wasn't too hard to do :)! The stamped image that I used on this cake was the cute "Baby bella pea" stamp, and I stamped it first on cardstock. Then I cut the image out, colored it in using Copic markers, then I attached it to a small piece of wax paper and then I cut around the image on the wax paper. Turned out pretty good I think :)!

Have a great day :), no school here today so I will be doing crafty things like baking for the shower :)! I will post the other yummy things later :)!

Paint can for E*

My sister in laws baby shower is Friday night, and I am hoping that the weather will be fine for our fun night :)! There will be a cousin of my dh there (she will be the youngest there), and so I thought it would be good if I made her something to make her night a bit fun...so I made her a paintcan. I know how fun these things can be when you are her age, and thought it would be nice if she had something to look forward to (it is a surprise) :)! I had a lot of fun making this one for her, and what you don't see in this picture is the ribbon that I added to the handle of the paint can...it needed something. I want to put something in the can that she will enjoy, something Easterish perhaps or something very girly...hmmm...going to have to think about his for a bit.
LOVE altering these paintcans :)!

HURRAY, they have come :)

I was thrilled when I opened up my mailbox today :), because my order from Stamping Bella came today. I won a gift certificate and ordered 2 stamps, I ordered "Baby Bella Pea" and also "Best Friends Forevah". I can't wait to order more from them :)! I will be inking these stamps up tonight and hopefully creating something for you to view :)! Cute stamps eh??

Happy Stamping :)!

Folded

I wasn't at the last SU night at Kim's place, but I did hear about our next groups challenge and it involves using a different fold. This challenge was put out by Deborah, and we will exchange our cards at her SU night :)! My search began over at the SCS, plus I sent off an e-mail to Beate to see if she had any ideas too and she suggested the following folds:

~Gate fold
~Zfold
~Joy fold
~Cami trifold
~triange trifold card

I didn't really see a fold that lept out at me and said "pick me, pick me"...so I carried on with my search over at SCS and I found one that I really really liked. So my card was cased from a card that Wendy Weixler (her nickname on SCS is Wendybell, check out all the other wonderful and beautiful cards that she makes) made. So I decided that I would use this fold that I think is called "accordian fold", if I am wrong about the name of the fold please let me know so that I can correct it here.

Here is what I used to make this card:

Cardstock:

~ SU Bravo Burgandy for the cards base

It's that time again...BLOG CANDY/CHALLENGE

First thing is first, I checked my counter today and I am just a bit over the 6000 mark and so it is that time again for some great blog candy I think :)! Hold on here...wait stop, don't be so quick to leave a comment...lol, there's more to this blog candy thing :)...I know you are anxious to put your name down there.

I was thinking yesterday it was also high time for me to post another challenge to you all, and then I wanted to create a name for my challenges but of course I am in one of my creative funks. Anyways, I would like you to do one of the 2 things in order to be considered for my blog candy :)!

1) I would like you to come up with a neat catchy name for my challenges, lol, seems I am kind f challenged when it comes to this sort of thing :p!

2) I would like you to create a card, using one of your wooden mounted $1.50 stamps from Michael's that you don't use often. Now I know that there are lots of you out there with these stamps, that don't use them often like me...so break these out and ink em up. Here is my card for an example of this challenge:

If you don't have any of these Michael's $1.50 stamps, I would like you to make a card with a java/coffee theme to it :)!

So I have just decided on a whim, that I will draw for 2 yep 2 blog candy winners...one for the name my challenge and one for the card making challenge. How's that ?? Don't forget to leave your name and your e-mail addy for me, so I can get in touch with you if you are the winner of my blog candy. I will leave this challenge open for one week, so on 26th of March is when I will draw a number using the random number generator at lunch time :)! The blog candy will be a surprise :)! Good luck, have fun :)!

Old Red Barn give away

Quick head on over to the Old Red Barn blog, because they are giving away a beautiful quilt and 2 $35 gift certificates. They will be drawing tomorrow Wednesday March 19 at 7 EDT, and will announce the winner on Thursday the 20th of March sometime in the morning hours. Hope you check out this blog anyways, because the pictures on it are amazing :)!

Have a super day :)!

Card for Beate's weekends card sketch #39

Yep, it is that time again to try your hand at Beate's weekend card sketch challenge which I really look forward to every week :). Here is my take or version to this sketch challenge, hope you like it :D!

I started out with a stamped flower image, that I used my Copic Ciao markers, but it just wasn't going to work with this card and so I put that image aside. Don't worry, I will use this image in a card I am going to be making later...I will use a different kind of fold to the card too I think...just playing around with the card in my head. I then used a different stamp for Beate's weekends card sketch card...and it is a great "Spring" looking card because at this moment it is not spring looking outside. Here is what I see outside my window...doesn't look to spring like does it??
What I used to make this card:
Cardstock:
~brown weave cardstock from Carousel

Ink:
~Archival ink pad (black)

Yep, I was in need of a Bday card for an Aunt and thought I would do something fun and simple...not often I do a super simple card. Anyways, I LOVE how it turned out...I especially LOVE my Archival black ink pad :D! We are going to be having a family Birthday party for her, my great Aunt and my mother on Sunday...I doubt we will have it due to the 2 BIG snow storms coming our way. Sheesh, I thought someone said it was spring :p! I better start making more spring like cards to hopefully inspire Mother Nature to be more "spring like" :)!

Archival ink pads by Ranger

As some of you know I have been wanting to know which inks one can use to stamp images onto fabrics, and I thank all of you who sent me comments or e-mails with links to different sites for this topic. The other day I was at Michael's and I picked up some fabric markers, but when I tried them on the fabric I didn't get a crisp image. Plus, the whole image that I stamped didn't all show up..only parts of the stamped image showed up...make sense?? Lucky for me, Spray and Wash (my all time favorite stain remover) removed any signs of this image on the fabric...didn't stain at all :)!
Second attempt, I stamped the image using "Archival ink pad" (Black) by Ranger (which I got from Michael's, it has a monk looking guy writing on parchment paper with a feather plume coming out the side of his shoulder...clear as mud eh?). This I was told would run, would bleed, wouldn't work...well, to my absolute delight it did work :)! I stamped the image onto the fabric, then ran down to my dryer, threw it into the drier for a half an hour to let the ink set...then I put it into the wash. The image did fade a little bit, but not something worth getting upset over...it just looks like it came this way from the factory (hard to explain)!!! I am thrilled to pieces and thought I should pass this info on to everyone here :)! I can't post the things I stamped yet, because my dear sister in law likes to read my blog...so you will have to wait (sorry) until Thursday or Friday after the shower we are having for her.

Happy stamping, and I will have something to post later for you to enjoy :)!

My first altered note book

Here is a little notebook that I picked up from Michael's a few months ago, cute eh?? I didn't like the cover all that much, and the other day I thought it was high time that I altered it...so I did :)! Love how it turned out, and I got to use my new punch that I got from my fav. little craft store Carousel with a gift certificate. I also picked up my first Elzybells stamp :)!!

Would be doing more crafty things tonight if it weren't for my left hand really really hurting...the surgeon this morning didn't look at my xrays (not that I noticed anyways), he poked at my had a second...asked what I did for a living...I told him I am a stay at home mom of 3 children. He said "Ok, well I am thinking it is Tendonitis...I am sending you for a months physio then come back to see me and then I will send you to Orthopedics!" Does Tendonitis hurt to the point you want to take a hammer or rubber mallet to it (don't worry I wouldn't do that) ? Does your hand feel tingly or numb sort of feeling and feel different when you try to move it?? Anyways, this is what is going on for now with my hand. Wish I could post more tonight but I am in serious pain...going to bed...hoping the pain will go away...

Oh yeah, on a brighter note I need to thank StampingBella for the gift voucher that I won for participating in one of their challenges. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much, it made my day :)! LOVE the new stamps that they have there...looking forward to ordering more stuff from them, please go check them out :)! I will also be posting what I used to alter this notebook tomorrow when I hope and pray my hand feels better...

Happy creating tonight :)!

It needed something...

This morning I came out, picked up the card that I made/posted on here last night and thought that it was missing something. So I decided I wanted a sentiment on it, but the color of the ink I would use was important...I decided that I wanted to use an ink that would stand out. So I finally settled on the "Thank you" sentiment from the SU set called Short and Sweet and I settled on the color ink that I would use and that would be Redwood by Ancient Page :)! Now my card is finnished I think...:p!

We are having a freezing rain day here, which means no school, so perhaps I can get some crafty time in...yeah right, who am I kidding :p. Have a SUPER day :)!

different kind of card for me

It is rare that I come up with my own kind of layout of a card or design of a card or a different way to cut a card...I usually stick with the same basic style. Well, this afternoon a layout (if that is what you call it) came to me...I tried to get other things done and just couldn't get this card out of my head. So once I put the kids to bed, I got out everything that I needed to make this card and I sat down to make it! I knew when it was done, when it looked right...funny how things work like that sometimes :)! It is a different style for me, hope you like it :)!

The first picture is an angled view of the card, and the second picture is the front view of my card...make sense??

What was needed to make this card:
Cardstock:

~Blue cardstock that I got from Kim
~Brown chocolate chip cardstock from Carousel
~Avacado flat cardstock from Carousel
~White flat cardstock from Carousel
~Patterned paper from Imaginisce called "Loves Me-So Happy Together"

Ink:
~ Brilliance black ink

Stamp set:
~ SU Embrace Life

Other:
~Ruler
~SU watercolor crayons Soft Subtles
~H2O brush from Michael's
~photo stickers

I made the usual card base, but trimmed just a little off the top of the front of the card...then sort of added a topper to the front of the card. If you would like more details let me know and I will write out some instructions :)!

Blog Candy

Head on over to this site and check out this blog candy: http://melaniemuenchinger.blogspot.com/ , and while you are over there check out that CUTE tote bag that she made. She will be posting the tutorial and template this week sometime. Take care and hope you have a good week :)!

I haven't forgotten about mailing out the blog candy to the most recent winner, I sort of didn't get out to the store over the weekend due to a nasty reaction to Tylenol 3...will get it out to you soon :)!

A card on a snowy day

I was trying to make another card to go with the first card I made for the girl's night out at Julie's tonight...but it didn't work out that way lol. Instead I made a card with a bit of an Asian feel to it, and I also wanted to use "A Little Bit of Happiness" stamp set that I just got the other day. What fun this card was to make :D...and just for the record I LOVVVVVEEEEEE SU's watercolor crayons, because they are the BEST :)! Not to worry though, I am going to get right down to business here and get another card done for tonight...then I have to start getting my crafty gear together.

I was having some trouble trying to figure out how I was going to use "A Little Bit of Happiness" on a card, I went onto SCS but they didn't even have a category for this stamp set yet. I dunno if I am brave enough to start one for it :p..had enough computer issues to do me for awhile :p!

Here is what I used to make this card:

Cardstock:

~Blue cardstock that I got from Kim

~Brown weave cardstock from Carousel

~ White flat cardstock from Carousel

Ink:

~Stayzon Brown ink

~Brilliance Black ink
Stamps:

~ SU "Embrace Life" stamp set

~ SU "A Little Bit of Happiness" stamp set

Other:

~ SU watercolor crayons Soft Subtles (highly recommend getting these)

~SU white gel pen

~Photo stickers
